Eric Knight. He was my best friend from the day he threw sand in my hair when we were three. We were inseparable after that. There were no secrets between us, we never had to pretend with each other–until the day, in our sophomore year of high school, when he told me he was leaving the next morning to go live with his dad on the other side of the country. He promised that once he was eighteen he would come back for me.
Three years. I waited for him to come back to me once he turned eighteen. He never did.
Now, fourteen years later he’s standing on my doorstep. He doesn’t look anything like the boy who left all those years ago–he’s taller, bigger, tattooed.
His chocolate-brown eyes still do to me at twenty-nine what it did to fifteen-year-old me.
Alice Johnson. I fell in love with her when we were kids. I hated turning my back on her and leaving her in our sophomore year of high school, but my mother was a stupid junkie, and the court decided it would be in my best interest to live with a father I had never met. Turns out my father was the president of an MC.
I’ve been stuck in that life for the last fourteen years. I wanted out, and I wanted her back. But what I was about to do could get us both killed. Nobody went up against my dad and lived to tell about it.
Enough was enough. I had waited a long time to go get my girl, and I wasn’t waiting any longer.
About the Author:
You can take the girl out of the ocean but you cannot take the ocean out of the girl. A.J. believes that describes her to a T. She practically grew up on a beach in Cape Town, South Africa until her family immigrated to Canada.
However, the ocean still has a way of relaxing her. If she can’t get to the water then a long drive with the music blaring will work just fine.
She wears her heart on her sleeve and is a self-proclaimed hopeless romantic who believes that everyone deserves their happily ever after. A.J. lives in BC, Canada with her husband. When she’s not writing, she’s reading. She loves the NFL and drinks way too much coffee.
